How to Use
- Palette Mixing: Mix 1 part oil to 3 parts paint on your palette using a palette knife or brush. Start with just a few drops and adjust to your desired consistency. Too much oil makes paint sticky or overly watery.
- Fat Over Lean Rule: Build layers progressively—use very little oil in early layers (lean), then gradually increase oil content (fat) in each subsequent layer. This prevents cracking as the painting dries.
- Dipping Method: Lightly dip your brush into the oil before picking up paint. This improves flow for fine details and delicate brushwork without adding excess medium.
- Glazing Technique: Mix oil with paint to create semi-transparent layers. Apply thin coats over dried layers to build color intensity, depth, and luminosity.
